The Film

This is the finished product of our preliminary task film. I worked on it with Joanna Hyde and Charley Boughen. We included the 180 degree rule, match on action and shot reverse shot.

Filming

Filming

The equipment for the filming was relatively easy to use. Before we started to film our piece we were shown by our teacher how to correctly and efficiently use the equipment. We practiced with the cameras and the other equipment we used before we stated to film. Before each scene we planned how we were going to shoot the footage and had a go at it with some test runs. Also, we filmed more footage than we needed to make sure we had enough and didn’t have to re-film again. The difficult part was making sure that when the camera was on the tri-pod that it was balanced and straight. Also, as the tripod was quite big it was hard to position it in the correct place that would give us enough room to film as well.  Our original idea was to film in a different room and this is where our story board had been set however, we found an even better room for the setting. Due to this we needed to re film one of our shots because the 180 degree rule was different from the one in the original room. I felt that my group was prepared before filming. The week before filming we made sure that the actors we wanted to play the roles of the Aliens were able to do so and happy with the idea. Also, we gathered all the props and make-up that we needed. We booked the cameras and a time slot to film in advance to make sure that we had everything we needed and that our group could all attend. The only bit that we were unprepared about was the setting for our film however; the room we chose in the end was free to be filmed in so it didn’t cause any problems. In my group we divided up the shots so that we all had an equal amount to film. We didn’t have any arguments and all worked rather well together. My favourite part about filming was seeing all our ideas come together and seeing the film piece together.

Description of our ideas

Description of our ideas

Once we had been told the required elements for our preliminary task we had a brainstorm about ideas in which, we could use. We wanted to think outside the box so we have decided to use the genre of sci-fi.

Firstly, we decided on our story line so that we could adapt the requirements to this including the 180 degree rule, shot reverse shot and match on action. We came up with the idea of a character delivering a mysterious briefcase to another character. As we were using the genre of sci-fi the characters we wanted to use were sophisticated aliens. To make our film totally sci-fi we have decided to create our own language for our characters to speak and we want to have subtitles on the screen when we come to edit it.  We only want to have two characters in our film. One of the characters we have decided to use will be an alien space leader and we have decided to call him Master Zorg. We want to use a bald cap to add to the mysteriousness of the character and to make him look more like a sci-fi character. Our second character will be an alien type secretary character to Master Zorg, we are going to name her Magtina. She will be the character that will deliver the mysterious briefcase to him.

To include the match on action in our film we are going to use this when the alien character enters the room through a door. Our shot reverse shot is going to be used while the characters are exchanging dialogue and the 180 degree rule is going to be used throughout on the left side of the setting/characters.
